About Cedar
Rapids Chinese School and its program…
The
Cedar Rapids Chinese School is a newly formed Saturday language program in 2004
for students of all ages. Its purpose is to teach the Chinese Mandarin language
using the Pin Yin method and to teach Chinese culture and customs. Instructions
will be bilingual suitable for students with little or no Chinese language
background. Writing style will be in both simplified style and traditional style
Chinese.
Under
the direction of the school’s director and master teacher Mrs. Yayu Yuen,
students will participate in an interactive learning environment studying the
Mandarin Chinese language through the art of song, play, dance and games. The
lessons will use movement and social interaction to enhance the learning
process. In addition the student
will learn Chinese customs, and history. They will also be involved in
storytelling, arts and crafts, origami and writing activities resulting in a
final performance and presentation of Chinese songs, dance and poetry.
The
Cedar Rapids Chinese school strives to provide high quality language
instructions through the means of creative interactive learning, art, music and
play in additional to the traditional method of classroom language instruction.
Our language program is designed based on a proven belief that a child’s sense
of language development and sense of well being in learning in the community can
be fostered through the study of song and play with lots of fun.
